Poppy’s new riding hat

There was much talk of Poppy’s new riding hat as I was lead in from the field – apparently it had ‘go-faster’ stripes on it, silvery stars and a pom-pom on top. Poppy was so keen to wear it that she insisted on riding me today instead of Ava. All this talk of going faster boded well – for this is one of my very favourite things to do!

After a quick groom and tack-up, we were soon jig-jogging down the track like a mini-racehorse. Poppy was practising her jumping position so I thought she was up for a bit of excitement.

I noticed that I was OFF the lead and I playfully snatched the reins out of Poppy’s hands, but was soon told off by The Big Boring One (and reminded how naughty it was when I lost my rider by putting my head down suddenly – oops, sorry Poppy). Once we got to the top of the hill I was delighted to see we were going to do our ‘Badminton Horse Trials’ ride…loads of trotting on long grassy tracks, a Vicarage Vee over a ditch, a log and a great big puddle which I managed to leap over completely – unlike those silly eventers who run through their lakes getting completely wet. Although, I’m not sure if they are allowed to stop for ‘REFRESHMENTS’

It was such brilliant fun, Poppy can definitely wear that hat again if it makes us go-fast every time!
